This post may not be directly related to being an everyday mom or dad. But it really is related. Why? Because an everyday parent is also someone (but not always) who is balancing a professional work life (outside the home), travelling for their profession and also taking a few minutes each day to take care of themselves (their wellbeing!). Being healthy and exercising makes us more easily able to deal with the everyday challenges of being a parent. Enjoy, and give the exercises a try!
Who are my travelling professional mamas? ladies? gentlemen? How do you keep on track with your fitness goals, while away?
I bet you know how this story goes!
So I travel for my job, and often struggle with keeping myself motivated enough to maintain my routine while I am away from home. The intentions are there… the runners are packed (always!). There are #noexcuses …. I am baby free and chore free (of course besides the working part!)
I have the biggest of dreams when I am packing my suitcase. After I carefully pack for my meetings, I always include my runners on top and a couple of workout tops. The plan of course is to hit the hotel gym early in the morning, and even take a beautiful jog around the lake (I often go to Geneva) — and as a result, I tell myself I will will come back stronger and more motivated.
Without fail, I may only make it down to the gym a couple of times over the course of the week (and unfortunately, never outside for a run). Okay, you are likely thinking, “Don’t be so hard on yourself!” I was working! But boy, during my last work trip I was thankful to be participating in a series of FitParenting Amanda Cole’s online bootcamps! Accomplishing work outs in my room proved to be much easier than going down to the gym (also, what doesn’t help is to be in the land of cheese, and the need to have fondue at least once while you are there), and if all else fails, do a few sets of intervals!
This time, I feel like it will be different (I am writing this just before I board a plane… stay tuned for the details on how the week pans out!).
“Why different?” you asked. There are a number of personal reasons:
– I am far more motivated, and excited about succeeding with obtaining my fitness certification.
– I am trying to live by example, how can I expect to keep others motivated along their fitness and health journeys, if I am not able to also stay motivated and accountable? (of course, recognizing that a break is also a very healthy part of your fitness journey).
– I feel like it makes my mind and soul stronger each time I put aside just a little time to my physical well being and #sweatpink. It energizes me and in some ways makes me feel far more accomplished like I have achieved my personal “daily goal.”
How do you stay motivated while travelling?

As a busy mom myself who also travels I created this workout to be one that left all excuses behind. Simply pack a band set (3 bands- light, medium, hard) and pack it in your suitcase before you leave, you won’t regret it! I designed this workout to be a 10 minute circuit so that if you only have 10 minutes each muscle group does get hit at least once. That said, I highly recommend going through the circuit two times if you have 20 minutes and even better 3 times if you have 30 minutes. Regardless, you have no excuse to miss your workout if your hotel doesn’t have a gym or you’re staying at Grandma’s house who has no weights.
